Drew Estate’s version of the Cuban cigar has been captured by famed master roller Willy Herrera.
If you’re not familiar with Herrera, he was the guy blending cigars for the famous El Titan de Bronze in Miami. Now working at Drew Estate’s factory in Esteli, Herrera was given unprecedented access to all of Drew Estate’s tobaccos, and has been making blend after blend.
The Herrera Esteli is rolled in the entubado style. This time-honored method originated in Cuba and is the most difficult method of rolling. A team of rollers from the Liga Privada production team were tasked with rolling this lightly colored Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that clings tightly to the Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers, making for a delicious medium to full-bodied blend that’s teeming with notes of cedar, oak, and the quintessential Cuban creaminess on the thfinish. Drew Estate and Willy Herrera may have outdone themselves on this one.
The full bodied Norteno by Willy Herrera features a Mexican Negra Maduro wrapper coupled with a spicy Honduran binder with extensively aged filler Nicaraguan tobaccos from Esteli and Jalapa. Norteno showcases a robust profile of rich and deep notes of spice and earth with a long lingering finish; and highlights the impressive skill set and expertise of Master Blender Willy Herrera.
Kentucky Fire-Cured use American fire-cured tobacco leaves from Kentucky and Virginia. While normally tobacco is air-cured, these special leaves are left to hang in specially-constructed curing barns, a process that dates back more than 200 years and that imbues each leaf with a rich, smoky, slightly sweet flavor that boasts exceptional balance and uniqueness. Notes of oak, hickory, and maple-laced sweetness explode on the palate. These leaves are joined by Nicaraguan and Brazilian Mata Fina long-fillers along with an oily San Andres maduro wrapper. This finished product is like nothing else on the market.
Defiant WhiskyDefiant Whiskey
The Defiant spirit runs through our souls. That craving for adventure and breaking away from convention. Finding truth in authenticity. Some chase a few defiant moments. Others live a lifetime in the spirit.
The Defiant crew behind the stills are salvage divers by trade, working at the edge of catastrophe at the bottom of the ocean. They run towards certain disaster and change fate with metal, fire, water and intellect. Defiant whisky is created by those same virtues. In diving and in whisky, greatness is not coincidence. It is cultivated, pushed, practiced and always evolving. We’re rethinking whisky by taking the best of Scottish tradition and combining it with American ingenuity. They’re starting a whisky revolution. Charting a new course on the journey. And they’re doing it the Defiant way.
Defiant is a new way of distilling. They’re not bound by barrels or recipes or tradition. Their guides are the best ingredients, Mother Nature and Defiant’s own intuition. They only use four ingredients. Nothing more. Premium American white oak, toasted to perfection. Specially cultured yeast. Two-row premium brewer’s barley. Pure water from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Start with quality, end with quality. They are starting a revolution in the whisky world.
