The Casa Magna Domus Magnus Centuriones is one of the newest vitolas to be added tothis Limited Edition Series of Casa Magna. They were released early April of this year in a limited run of 1,000 boxes or 10,000 cigars total.
The Centuriones is a short, box pressed robusto with a unique cap at the head of the cigar that is somewhere between a pig tail and a fanned tip. The Jalapa Valley wrapper is a rich, medium brown with some nice oils present and looks to be of great construction.
The pre lit aroma offers up a huge, earthy bouquet with some leather and black pepper mixed in. The earthiness comes through on the cold draw along with a subtle sweetness.
The Centuriones lights with little effort and upon the first draw you are greeted with a ton of that earthy flavor, which includes damp mineral rich soils and a hint of barnyard. I did not expect this cigar to be so in your face at the very first draw (I mean this in a good
way). As we really get into the first third a black pepper comes into the mix and adds a little strength to the flavor. I would classify the strength at the higher end of medium-full. The burn line is slightly wavy but manageable. The ash is firm and almost white in color. I am really enjoying this smoke and seeing the flavors come together.
Now into the second third, the Centuriones is a nice, well rounded smoke that has a huge mouth feel of rich, creamy smoke. Hints of leather are present during the retro hale along with a more subdued black pepper and earthiness. The aftertaste, or the finish of this cigar, just continues to linger on and impress me. The flavors just keep developing in the mouth long after the exhale.
During the final third, the flavors seem to meld into one another and are more unified. The strength is now a medium plus with no bitterness at all. There is still a lot of flavor but not as in your face. Towards the end the cigar needed some relighting, but nothing major.
Final thoughts: What impressed me the most about the Centuriones was how a medium plus/medium full creamy smoke could have so much flavor. The flavors on the finish would just keep lingering on and develop for over a minute after the exhale. This is an easy box purchase worthy recommendation for me. I could smoke this blend every day, at any time of day. Seek them out as well as the other Magnus Domus at your local tobacconist as they are a limited edition and surely won’t be around forever.
Final Smoking Time: Just over 1 hour
